Where else can Austinites swim? You’ve surely heard of legendary swimming locations like Barton Springs or Deep Eddy, but where else can they swim? We’ve compiled a list of the greatest swimming pools in Austin to help you fight the heat this summer! The bulk of Austin’s pools are free to enter, making them ideal gathering spots for friends and family.

There are a lot of ways to beat the heat and humidity in Central Texas, but none are as fun and soothing as Austin Texas swimming pools. The Texas hill region has a plethora of natural swimming holes because to its colourful geology and proclivity for hosting natural springs, and several of these amazing spots are just an hour’s drive from downtown Austin. 1: Murchison Pool

Murchison Pool is an L-shaped swimming pool in Northwest Austin with plenty of shade, picnic tables, and seats! There’s a deep end and some lap lanes if you want to get some exercise or improve your diving skills.

For a total investment of $35,000, the Austin Parks Foundation worked with the Friends of Murchison Pool to create new shade structures in 2015 and a new playscape in 2018. The new playscape will be built over the summer of 2019, but there will be no disruption to pool hours!

2: Patterson Neighborhood Pool

Patterson Neighborhood Pool in Northeast Austin is a great place for kids of all ages, including babies. Patterson Park, which is adjacent to the pool, has a basketball court, tennis courts, playground, skateboard ramp, and more! With 2017, APF assisted in the installation of picnic tables and seats around Patterson Pool, allowing for more seating.

Patterson Pool is a terrific alternative for swimming laps or taking a relaxing dip in a family-friendly environment. Check out the mosaic on the wall by the pool we helped fund in 2011 while you’re there!

3: Dove Springs Pool

Dove Springs Pool, near McKinney Falls State Park and Williamson Creek in Southeast Austin, is one of Austin’s most popular public swimming pools! The Dove Springs Recreation Center and walking/hiking trails are nearby.

Dove Springs Swims sponsored a free performance performed on by the pool’s neighbours and employees, organised by Forklift Dance! The performance took place in July 2018 to honour the community at one of its most popular gathering spots.

4: Martin Neighborhood Pool

Martin Neighborhood Pool is located in East Austin at Festival Beach on Town Lake, within Edward Rendon Sr. Metro Park. Within walking distance, you’ll discover plenty of shade, local artwork, a public restroom, and breathtaking views of Town Lake. Martin Pool serves as a lifeguard training facility before lifeguards are dispatched to pools throughout Austin.

Austin Parks Foundation teamed up with St. David’s Foundation in 2018 to construct a much-needed shade structure and a new playscape near to the pool.

5: Little Stacy Wading Pool

The Little Stacy Wading Pool in Southeast Austin is the greatest place in town to swim for babies and toddlers! A living oak tree provides a half-shade to this 2-foot-deep pool. Within steps of the gates, there’s also a shaded plays cape.

6: West Enfield Pool

The West Enfield Pool in West Austin has shade structures as well as an ADA accessible pool with a ramp! This 7-foot-deep pool features lap lanes as well as a nice kids/toddler aquatics section.

At West Enfield Pool, it’s safe to say there’s something for everyone! Take a look at the public art in front of the complex, as well as the newly restored bathhouse.

7: Rosewood Pool

Rosewood Pool, in East Austin, is a community pool that is ideal for a get-together with friends and family. The pool is surrounded by lovely cypress trees, and the facility has a nice mix of historic and modern vibes.

There’s also a playscape within walking distance for the kids to enjoy before or after swimming. Rosewood Pool is the place to go for a no-frills swimming experience.

8: Dick Nichols Neighborhood Pool

Dick Nichols Neighborhood Pool is a hidden gem in South Austin, with three different swimming areas for people wishing to chill off in the shallow end, the exercise by swimming laps, or let their babies splash around.

Through August, you can get a scoop (or two) of delectable gelato, which is new this summer! This summer, visit Dick Nichols if you want to beat the heat.

9: Givens Neighborhood Pool

Many believe Givens Neighborhood Pool to be a hidden treasure on Austin’s east side! Whether you’re planning a day at the pool with pals or seeking to swim some laps, we recommend giving Givens a try!

Forklift Danceworks, in collaboration with Austin Parks Foundation, presents Givens Swims, the next episode of their dance event benefiting Austin’s pools. The performance will be put on by Givens Pool’s staff and neighbours.

10: Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest Pool

Sheffield, Beverly S. Northwest Municipal Pool, sometimes known as ‘Northwest Pool,’ is located in Northwest Austin. This Olympic-sized pool offers separate areas for recreational swimming and diving, but lap swimmers love it the most.

There are shaded bleachers, picnic tables, and a diving board available. Northwest Pool is a great place to go for a refreshing swim with an old-school ambiance.
