A visit to the temples and shrines is only one of the numerous things to do in Kyoto. You may spend weeks and not see them all because there are over 2,000 of them. On a second visit to Kyoto, I discovered how many excellent ones I had missed the first time around.
You may want to spend a few days in Kyoto, depending on your Japan schedule. This historical city is steeped in artistic tradition and preservation. It’s an incredible resource for learning about Japanese culture. Many of Kyoto’s temples are both world heritage sites and historical sites that have been conserved.
